Over the past few days, the hype towards Taylor Swift's first new song in 3 years began to build - starting with Swift deleting all posts from her various social platforms, then releasing mysterious snake-themed video clips - all harkening back to last year's bizarre event where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West roasted T-Swift on Snapchat and revealed she had been lying about claiming to have not given her blessing over some controversial Kanye lyrics. The whole thing was...extremely stupid, but still pretty embarrassing for Swift, who mostly went off-radar afterwards.
Then, she dropped the album name and cover - it would be titled Reputation and mostly be about how newspaper headlines were just "TAYLOR SWIFT" 3 times in a row so often.

And mere hours ago, Swift released the first single off of her new album (due out in November), entitled "Look What You Made Me Do." I think it's a Halloween song or something but I can't be totally sure - judge for yourself:
Swift, who has always had a real talent for catchy, infectious pop tunes, seems to have....uh.....well, I'm not really a music critic, but that sucked, right? Like, it was a weird mid-2000's throwback that samples "I'm Too Sexy" but not in a fun or interesting way? And literally ends with:
"I'm sorry, but the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead."
I'm sure there's some hidden meaning, but it comes off as embarrassingly self-serious and cringey. But I'm not the only one underwhelmed with the new single - most of the internet is roasting this thing to shreds right now:

And while there have been a few standard positive notices from other musicians and celebrities, at least Nicki Minaj is being real here:
